Tai Chi Zeo Trailer- Kung Fu meets Steampunk?

While I'm not a huge fan of Kung Fu/martial arts movies, perhaps too many bad memories from watching badly dubbed Kung Fu Theater on Saturday afternoons as a kid.  I came across the trailer  for Tai Chi Zero and the steamyness of it got my attention.

So what's all this Steampunk asskickery about anyway? Dig it. We have a warrior that goes by the name of Yang Lu-chan who has the misfortune of having a uncontrollable weapon that seems to be triggered when a horn, yes I said horn on his forehead is struck. Yes, he is one of them there horned warriors. Anywho... He finds out about a mountain village that is home to a special form of Tai Chi that could just save his horny life.

Of course he is shunned by the small village and they refuse to teach him their special mojo at which point he tries to change their minds and I'm sure at this point we are shown old Yang Lu getting a mountain village ass whoopin form everyone above the age of two.

Enter the Great White Devil that wants to run a railroad through the heart of the village and ... Well I think we see where this is heading. What i do love about this trailer is that it knows it's for a Kung fu movie and as such doesn't take itself too serous.

Check out the trailer and let me know what you think.

New Novel Adopted From Rush's Steampunk Album

Yes, you did read that right. It said Rush is putting out a Steampunk album. And yes, its being adopted into a novel by non other than Keven J. Anderson. Your probably familiar with Mr. Anderson's work through his writing of X-files, Star Wars, Batman, Superman, Star Trek and Dune. In other words the guy might know what he is doing.

Seems the prolific Mr. Anderson has know Rush drummer Neil Pert for over 20 years. Mr. Anderson's first novel Resurrection Inc. was inspired on Rush's album Grace Under Pressure.
Pert came to Anderson as he was developing the story for Clockwork Angels. As Pert was writing the lyrics for the songs, Anderson was working on the characters and details for the plot of the novel.

You can check out the new album and the novel at Amazon. I've been kind enough to provide helpful links. Hey, its just theway I roll.

Okay, so Mad Max is not really known as one of the great Steampunk movies. But if you go back and look at the movie again there are some very steam-like elements in the film. Note the liberal use of goggles. And my guess is that if your into Steampunk you probably love these movies... Well okay, at least the first two... Okay maybe the original.

The films in fact have inspired a 3 day post-apocalyptic party that happens each year to celebrate the films and the yummy geekness of the fans that surround the movies.

This year the blowout, called Wasteland Weekend will be held in the Mojave desert outside of Los Angeles on Sept. 23-25. Check out the clip from last year. And remember it's a dry heat!
